I have recently learned that Blue Cheer performed the song in 1968. Most people recognize the song as it was performed and made popular by The Who in 1969. The song went to #14 on the billboard chart. I was not surprised to learn that Jimi Hendrix had also performed the song. "Summertime Blues" has a Jimi Hendrix guitar sound. Some of the signature riffs in this song sound very familiar to the way Jimi Hendrix played guitar. I am also reminded of Black Sabbath when I hear the fast paced beat of the song.
"Summertime Blues" is about a conflict between teenagers and adults. One example of this in "Summertime Blues" is the line "You know my mom and papa told me son you gotta make some money".
