For this week, we will be talking about Music Machine's "Talk Talk". This is a lesser known one hit wonder. The lyrics in this song sound like a cry for help because the singer talks about not having friends and about making mistakes and feeling useless. Even though the lyrics sound sad and hopeless, the tune of the song is upbeat and feels happy. The music video shows the band performing in the middle of the street and looks very rebellious. Even though the lyrics say they have no friends, there are people smiling and dancing in the background.
This 1 minute and 50 second long song was not recorded in a studio with multiple "takes," but was rather recorded in a more casual atmosphere such as a garage.
I spoke with my grandfather about the time period when the song was written and a little about the band. My grandfather thinks the song seems to have been more popular on the West Coast as the band was from the Los Angeles area. He also explains that it was not well known on the East Coast in 1966/1967.
