For this week, we will be talking about Nazareth's "Love Hurts". This song is still fairly well known today and can be heard in old Nissan commercials and currently the song is used in the commercial for Aspercreme. The Commercials mostly feature the chorus but there is a lot more to the song than just the famous chorus. The songs lyrics talks about love in a negative and saying its a bad thing that will only leave you hurt. It is written from the perspective of a young person whos heart has been broken and they're struggling with it.
My favorite part about the song is how much emotion is in the lyrics. This song is unique because it talks about love in a negative saying that love is something that should be avoided. On the other hand, many songs that talk about love talk about it in a positive way and is something that you want to find and enjoy rather than avoid.
I spoke with my grandfather again this week, and he mentioned that the song has been covered many times. He says the first time he heard the song was from a Roy Orbison hit record and that the Everly Brothers also covered the song.
