The next one hit wonder that we will be exploring is Zager and Evans' "In The Year 2525". The song came out in 1968 and was written by singer/guitarist Rick Evans. The song is written about the fear of what will happen to humankind as the use of technology increases. One verse that talks about the bands fear of technology taking over is "In the year 5555, your arms hangin' limp at your sides, your legs got nothin' to do, some machine's doin' that for you". This song was written before cell phones and the internet, it makes me wonder what they would think about the way we use technology today. "In The Year 2525" the chorus has a unique futuristic sound which makes sense since they're talking about what things could be like in the future.
The song went #1 on the billboards in three different countries including the UK, America, and Australia. Zager and Evans recorded 3 albums in total, but no other song reached the level of fame that "In The Year 2525" did. Making Zager and Evans a one hit wonder!
